In order to serve tiles generated, an easy way seemed to be required for most users without having compile or deploy a bunch of softwares.

Terrain Tile Server will do excatly that.

First beta release and test tilesets will be online soon.

Terrain Tile Server is a lightweight Quantized Mesh Tile Server.

Main difference fron TGS server is this version is lightweight and desktop aimed.

It is to be used for TGS / STK Terrain Database files.

Beta Terrain and Bathymetry Data

Hello,

I believe most of the readers are aware of www.terrainserver.com site that hosts Alpha version of terrain dataset. I call it alpha because it lacks many aspects like bug fixes and refactoring. It has a good quality and detail level but not as good as upcoming Beta tileset.

I call it beta because this tileset is very close for release and can be tested with your own data in near future. (At least it is planned to be). So for all those who wants to be a beta tester, get ready.

I suggest for you to prepare a different resolution, CRS, and data type DEM files. It is required to be less than 100MB in size.

Anyway, i have released first beta terrain tile set. Interestingly it has bathymetry data aswell. Detail level is up to 10 and it is derived from Topo15 dem.

Lighting Fix

Hello,

I have been working on previous lighting at tile edge fix. I have refactored main code part and result is better this time. I had to tweak a few parameters for precision since it strongly affects calculations.

Below you can see initial results. There is work to do yet, but the important thing is the result for now.

Merlischachen DEM Preview

Hello,

I have never had the chance to try TGS with very high resolution data. After obtaining 5cm DEM data, i have generated a small part of Merlischachen. Thanks to this data, i have covered a bug and refactored software a little bit.

STK and TGS

Hello,

After the summer break, now at work again. TGS is getting improved but still has much to do. Lately, i have added file support for STK terrain server file.

If you dont know what STK Terrain Server is, briefly it is official Quantized Mesh generator and server  for CesiumJS library.

Now with this support, you can have your database files served or generated with STK or TGS interchangeably whichever you prefer. (Ofc if you have purchased STK)


And one more note, TGS has another feature regarding this subject which i believe STK does not have support for it yet.

I will reveal it later on ;)
